Equestrian Social Media

Social media is great for finding people with similar interests, and equestrian sports is no different. Whether you’re an experienced equestrian, just learned to ride, or prefer to watch from the sidelines, there’s an online community for you. I asked around and compiled a list of the best websites and social media groups for horse people here in Aiken.

The Chronicle of the Horse (chronofhorse.com)

Everyone I asked mentioned this site as the best place to find horse-related information. The site is based around the Chronicle of the Horse magazine, and it also hosts active blogs on a wide variety of subjects, forums where you can ask and answer questions, and an online marketplace. The forums boast over 4,000 active members discussing every type of equestrian sport as well as horse care. If you like to follow equestrian sports, this site has the latest news about eventing, dressage, hunting, and more, with a focus on USA events.

r/Equestrian (reddit.com/r/Equestrian)

This is a “subreddit,” a sub-group on the massive Reddit.com news and discussion site. While the larger site is known for being contentious at times, r/Equestrian is friendlier and generally positive. Members (“redditors”) share pictures of their horses, ask for riding advice, and just chat about equestrian life. If your real-life friends are getting tired of hearing you constantly talk about horses, the people of r/Equestrian are there to fill the void. The subreddit claims over 24,000 members, though usually less than a hundred are active at any given time.

Local Facebook Groups (Facebook.com)

If you want to get involved in our local equestrian community, the Aiken Area Equestrians Facebook group is a great resource. With 1500 members, there’s plenty of information and active discussion. This group is a good place for buying and selling used equipment such as trailers and saddles, something that’s not as convenient to do with people who live far away. If you want to know what equestrian sporting events are happening locally, the Aiken Horse Shows, Events and Schooling Facebook group lists upcoming events you can participate in or just watch.

YouTube Channels (YouTube.com)

Sure, it’s fun talking and reading about horses, but it’s even more fun to watch them run, jump, and prance. If you’re looking for equestrian sports videos, the US Equestrian YouTube channel has you covered. They have videos of event-winning rides, instructional videos to help you become better at your own discipline, and featured videos of notable equestrians and their horses. If you want fully to embrace your inner “crazy horse girl”, check out the Equestrian Prep channel. Isa and Julie are best friends who have created this horse vlog to share their riding lessons, barn adventures, and equestrian style tips.

Honorable Mentions

  • YourHorseFarm.com: An equestrian lifestyle blog for anyone who has his own farm or just wishes he did.
  • TheBrokenBroomClub.com: A Slack channel for people who are passionate about horses. Slack is a group messaging app that allows private discussion among group members.
  • CRKTrainingBlog.com: This blog is a good resource for beginning riders.

Serious Money Matters and Brain Food

In nearly thirty years of working as a financial advisor, I have never witnessed more uncertainty in so many areas that impact investments. The financial crisis in 2008 was serious and we saw tremendous volatility, but it was more concentrated directly with mortgage and banking related concerns. The objective of having some assets in a position that are unaffected by market volatility is a discussion that I always have. I can also state that most people do not give this suggestion much concern because we focus on recent events. We are very aware that market returns in general were outstanding for 2019. We are emotional beings and our brains are

Think Inside the Box

It’s outside what you expect The spaceship that I was driving must have been going a million miles per hour. At eight years old, I was enjoying the man in the moon while avoiding being seen by the Martians. It was a wonderful trip, and my box had once again made the exciting journey possible. Only moments later, I was in another world of adventure and my cabin (box) was protecting me from all the wild animals and possible spies in the surrounding forest. I had food and supplies for several days and could survive the storms, which were brutal at times. My box was my world of imagination and

Social Media | On Tolerance

If we’re transparent and honest, negative comments can become opportunities to improve customer relationships. If you’re on social media for any length of time, you’re eventually going to offend someone, even if you don’t mean to. It’s bad enough when you accidentally anger someone on a personal account, but when one of your business’s social accounts offends someone, that can be particularly fraught. Online reviews and reputation are hugely important to businesses nowadays, so much so that companies will mention Yelp or other reviews in their advertising, and sometimes even hire reputation management consultants to make sure nothing negative shows up in a search. Realistically, it’s impossible to have only
