How to Protect Your Energy

Have you found yourself in a bad mood but you can’t pinpoint exactly why you feel that way or where it came from? When that happens, something negative has invaded your energy field or spirit. Let’s talk about some practical ways to protect your energy from negativity.

Protect Your Ear Gate

What you allow yourself to hear affects your energy. Ever listen to the news and feel fearful afterwards or like the world is coming to an end? Or perhaps you listen to a particular song that triggers certain feelings within you and changes your whole mood? What about listening to salacious gossip? How about hearing the same negativity over and over again until it becomes real in your psyche and you start repeating it yourself? Of course it’s not realistic to think you can protect yourself from hearing anything negative, but you can certainly filter it. You can choose what you listen to on the radio, and what conversations you choose to participate in, and thereby manage your thoughts and emotions.

Protect Your Eye Gate

What you allow yourself to see affects your energy. What movies or TV shows are you watching? Are they violent? Is everyone having an affair? Is everyone always fighting or scheming? How much time do you spend allowing your eyes to see these things while your energy absorbs them? You get my drift. I love a good action movie or horror film, but I know I need to limit how much time I spend watching them.

“Guard your heart with all diligence, for from it flow springs of life.”

Proverbs 4:23

Carry Crystals

Let me demystify crystals a little bit without getting too scientific. They are gemstones from the earth, and they carry and emit energy. For instance, your quartz watch and computer time are regulated by a quartz crystal that keeps their time accurate. Most people wear crystal jewelry. If you have diamond rings or earrings, sapphire, emerald, or ruby jewelry, you’re wearing crystals. If you have a birthstone ring, you’re wearing a crystal. Now that I have that out of the way, let me recommend some good protection crystals.

  1. Black Tourmaline can aid in blocking and repelling negative energy as well as transmuting the heaviness of an atmosphere.
  2. Black Obsidian can create a shield of protection around your aura.
  3. Malachite absorbs negative energies and can guard against radiation and harmful rays from technological equipment.

You can carry these in your pocket or purse or wear them in jewelry. I kept pieces on my desk in my office as well. There are many other crystals, but for the sake of brevity …

Ground Yourself

What is grounding? It is centering yourself, stabilizing your energy, bringing it back into balance. Here are some ways to do it.

  1. Walk barefoot on the earth. Connection with the earth is one of the top grounding techniques for me personally. Walking barefoot on it helps you to pull that stabilizing energy through your feet into your being.
  2. Garden. Again, touching the earth, plants, and seeds with your hands helps you absorb that grounding energy. And if you’re anything like me, I garden barefoot! I call it playing in the dirt!
  3. Hike a mountain trail. I love to visit the Upstate because I get to hike mountain trails or run into waterfalls, particularly at this time of year. It’s peaceful and serene, the leaves on the trees are turning, and the mountain air is pure. Somehow, answers to problems become clear.
  4. Visit the beach. I prefer the off season because it’s not so crowded. I may be able to meditate. The beach provides a connection to nature with its grounding energy. Walking barefoot on the sand and in the water, the smell and feel of the briny breeze — grounding.
  5. Meditate. It is not complicated as some think. Think of it this way: prayer is talking to God or source, meditating is listening to God or source. If you can’t quiet your thoughts long enough to listen, the alternative is guided meditations, in which someone guides you through the meditation with voice, music, and/or nature sounds. This helps you focus on the words and not on the millions of thoughts going through your head.
  6. Practice yoga. Stretching the body decreases the stress and anxiety from negative energy and provides a method of meditation.
  7. Try smudging. Smudging is a ceremony practiced by cultures and religions around the world, including by some indigenous peoples of the Americas. Cleanse your space and yourself by smudging or burning herbs such as white sage or resins (tree sap) such as frankincense and myrrh to remove negative energy.
  8. Visualize protection. If you’re ever in the situation where you cannot avoid a Negative Nancy, imagine a protective shield around yourself to prevent the negative energy from entering your aura. Visualize it bouncing off, boomerang style. Soon Nancy will find someone else to spew that negativity toward, but it won’t be you!

Say No

I know it’s easier said than done, but saying No is part of self-care. Put your needs, plans, mental health, and energy first by saying No to things that:

  1. Cause you unnecessary stress
  2. Disagree with your spirit
  3. Pull you away from your purpose
  4. Can be contentious and drain you
  5. You just don’t have the time or energy to take on

I hope these ideas have been beneficial to you in some way. Until we read again, Peace & Love!

Ode to the Dandelion

They pop up unannounced, Unwanted, Dreaded by some. Tiny green sprigs brighten the dull brown of the winter lawn. They are the first to herald the spring scene, And they are the last to whisper “farewell” in the autumn.  Soon bright yellow blossoms add color to spring’s welcome mat. “Dent de lion,” “Lion’s teeth” they are called, Ready to devour that lush, green lawn. Pull one out and, like Hydra, two will replace it.  Quickly the yellow blossoms fade, Churning out small, cottony puff balls. Children delight in running with them Blowing the gossamer wisps in the air Launching their wishes on the wind.  They rise like miniature hot air balloons Riding high wherever the wind takes them, Only to descend

Photo Of The Month: John Antaki

This photo was taken in Lagos, Portugal. It is a boat dock at Forte da Ponta da Bandeira located on the southwest tip of Portugal, facing Africa. I took this during my 2-week adventure through southern Spain; I visited Granada, Ronda, Gibraltar, Huelva, and Lagos. It is impossible for me to select one single favorite picture that I have taken, but this photo means a lot to me because it represents the beauty that can be found when traveling. FacebookTweetPin

Taylor Reynolds | Photo Of The Month

On the surface this photo is just a picture of a beer, but to me it captures so much more. It was taken on a sunset paddle tour of Stallings Island on the Savannah River. To me this photo encompasses the sense of community built around the love of the outdoors. It was sunset. People were paddling around, jumping off the large rocks that sit on this part of the Savannah River, and gushing over the adorable donkeys that reside on the island. It was my favorite day of summer and for that reason it is my favorite photo that I’ve ever taken. FacebookTweetPin
