Preparations are underway for the 2019 Memorial Day Parade, scheduled for Saturday, May 25, at 11 a.m., on Park Avenue and Laurens Street, downtown Aiken. Spectators are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue to watch the parade.
Veterans and military service organizations; area businesses; civic, community and youth organizations; schools; churches; and local bands are encouraged to be part of the parade honoring the sacrifices and service of military members and their families.
Participation is free, but participants must register. For more information or to register, visit www.aikenmemorialdayparade.com, or email aikenmemorialdayparade@gmail.com.
Aiken is one of only three cities in the state of South Carolina where Memorial Day parades are still held to honor service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice for this country when they lost their lives wearing a military uniform.
Chairwoman of the parade this year is CPT Linda Caldwell, USA (Former), who served in the U.S. Army in the Army Nurse Corps. She is also the immediate Past President of the Aiken Chapter, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).
